    Hi Everyone,

    I am new to this forum and i have been suffering from Anxiety attacks lately and depression, i have been calling Beyond Blue almost everyday when i am felling down and depressed, the counsellor staff on the phone are amazing in supporting and advise, i am speaking to a psychologist over the phone once a week and they're getting me back on the right track slowly, it will be a tough times ahead, i am still going to work, volunteer at my local SES unit to support my local community even in what i am going through mentally, i have a great supporting family, i also use Lifeline as well when needed for support they're also amazing in supporting and i even call Beyond Blue so i can have a chat which makes me be on top of the world.

    Hi Sasho,

    It must be tough what you are going through at the moment. I'm glad that you have discovered beyond blue services and that you are using them when you need them. It's good that you are still going to work and volunteering and it's great that you have a supportive family that understands your situation and can be there for you when needed. I think if you have been suffering from anxiety and depression for a while and need to talk to someone regularly, then you might also benefit from seeing a psychologist as well. A psychologist can help you with your current situation and by seeing one regularly can help you get the extra support you need, on top of also the services that you are using from beyond blue at the moment.

    Welcome to the forums and good on you for having the courage to post

    I feel your pain as I used to have chronic anxiety and its an awful place to be in. If you ever find the anxiety symptoms are impacting your day to day well being please make a double appointment with your GP as they are well versed where anxiety symptoms are concerned

    Good on you for seeing a psychologist as they can be helpful with low/mid level anxiety/depressive issues that dont interfere with our ability to function on a daily basis. You are proactive with your health...

    Hello Sasho, and welcome to the site, not only are you trying your hardest, which is a great honour on your part, but you have had other supportive people on the forums, which is certainly what you not only want but actually need.

    You know it takes someone who tries their hardest to get the support they need before they can eventually believe that it's an illness that has no discrepancy on who it wants to control and take away someone's personality they initially had and none of this is your fault, that's what you need to realise.

    Yes, I agree with Paul, well done for volunteering with the SES, a cause that deserves all the appreciation.

    Gidday Sasho, welcome to the forum!

    Thanks for the courage in reaching out. You obviously have inner strength and resilience to keep working, volunteering and chatting with Beyond Blue.

    I was chatting on the forum recently with a person who has similar symptoms to you. Amongst many other things I am sure, she created and set herself a daily routine with goals and specific outcomes. We made sure the goals were achievable and mostly enjoyable - this helps build self belief and esteem, keeps daily anticipation bubbling, and creates less time for negative thoughts.

    Of course this is a complex subject, but I was energised by how well she responded.

    The routine can be physical (eg exercise), mental (eg reading, studying). creative (eg learning music), and also joining a peer group with common interests eg book club, adventure stuff etc.

    I know it sounds very simplistic - it sure is, but it can work! The key is to mix the routine up into things you enjoy, and chores that are less enjoyable (housework etc). They all have to be measurable and achievable.

    I hope this simple suggestion might help a little bit. Take some time to have a think about it!
