    Hi everyone, I feel so overwhelmed.

    Well that word would really describe how I have been feeling most of my life. I am 43, Mum of three boys. Married. I have been suffering from anxiety and depression for over 20 years. I feel so alone with it. I have stopped seeing a psychologist years ago.

    With my husband working almost all the time, huge financial worries, home learning, marriage problems, kids fighting, I have all my family in Europe - so no family support here, having a hard time finding work, my husband basically blames my anxiety for our marriage problems and I ought to get it fixed - that is the support I am getting from him.

    I have been wanting to get help for a while. I just don't know where to turn to under the current circumstances & I cannot afford expensive treatment. I am so confused, I don't know where to start and I am so tired of feeling overwhelmed. You would think at 43 one would have their shit together. I have been on medication for years now. Well it is obviously not really working. Feeling so useless. My poor boys!

    If you have any suggestions of where to start - I would be very appreciative.

    Fellow European! In times like these, it definitely feels bad that the rest of the family is at the other side of the world on a completely different time-zone. I'm sorry to hear that family life and financial burdens are weighing down on you right now. One encouraging thought is that each day is one step closer to a post-pandemic normal life.

    For suggestions, have you considered visiting a GP for a mental health care plan? How were your experiences with a psychologist years ago? Stay in touch!

    Hi Adriene,

    I will apologise in advance if my reply jumps over the place.

    I am sorry to hear your husband is not being very supportive to your issues.

    On getting help...one suggestion here would be to contact counselling services in Anglicare or UnitingCare. Maybe different to talking with a psychologist though might fit into the budget?

    My dad had been on one medication for 25+ years and then decided it was no longer working for him. He has since changed medication and is happier than before. If you feel they are not working then having a chat with your GP might be worthwhile.

    My wife and eldest child both lost their jobs recently due to their workplaces closing due to Covid-19. I have spoken with some other people who had been looking for work also and found it difficult. Saying this does not improve your position or thoughts/feelings except the current crazy situation is hard in this area.

    I am guessing that at the moment you would be looking after the kids, feeding them, etc; being a mother, a wife; loving your children. Something I have to do is tell myself that I am only human and I am doing the best that I can. Cause sometimes the negative thoughts seem to crush any positives in a given day.

    There are things that can be done, whether you take a DIY approach, or look for a professional, or combination of both. Just going back to dad ... his psych told him to use the headspace app as well. The most important thing is that you recognised an issue and you posted here for support - a new journey starts?
